I went out drinking last night

I lost myself in a sea of stars
stumbling cold whispers
scuttling to the river's edge
laying back I opened the crack of my throat
to slake the thirst unquenchable
The rocks and fishes jumped in ecstacy
landing like jumbled hatpins on the lap of possibility

To the drop, I left that river dry
Wheeling in drunken frenzy
I troubled every passing stranger
Darting eyes would find another focus
when I gazed upon their shores

My mumbling was the beggers truth
There are no ears to light this candle
smoking and buffeted, I went whirling
assuming the sky, raking in clouds
I dazzled planets within their orbits

Until finally, I slept.

    i woke up this morning
    a new man

i went out drinking last night
    with my love
i went out drinking last night
    blinded by jealousy
i went out drinking last night
    with another
i went out drinking last night
as i fell to the ground
i went out drinking last night
    lipstick stains marked my soul
i went out drinking last night
i fell for the illusion of sex's gain
i went out drinking last night
revealed the reality of love's loss
i went out drinking last night
    abandoned at an intersection
i went out drinking last night
    and lost my mind
i went out drinking last night
    guns drawn and sirens blarring
i went out drinking last night
    and found myself in chains
i went out drinking last night
    'where's my love?'
i went out drinking last night
    and lost my mind
i went out drinking last night
    and woke up homeless
    i went out.
    drinking.
    last night.

    i woke up this morning
    a new man

    My mumbling was the beggar's truth;
he clapped his hands in the distance, capering...

As I sit in silence on the blue-dark beach
    the same nerve vibrates in our broken teeth;
My mumbling is the beggar's truth, he says.

The sea taps its fingers in a broken line
at my feet. My toes twine with it, white on white.
He claps his hands in the distance, capering

on wet feet. He sobs for joy and laughs for grief
because I spoke his ramblings in my sleep.
My mumbling is the beggar's truth. Our heads

knock together against the hard-packed sand,
filling our eyes with stars till we go blind.
(He claps his hands in the distance, capering.)

He claps my hands in the distance, capering.
My mumbling is the beggar's truth...

    Alive?

    Or dead?
